History of Dental Service Nick Oy

Our business is the import of dental care equipment and fixtures. Up until now, the company has been operating for three generations.
It went into business in 1934.

At the beginning, operation was conducted under the name of Hienomekaaninen korjaamo K.Nick (K.Nick Precision Mechanics Repair Shop), specialising in the repair and maintenance of dental care equipment.

This one-man precision mechanics company repaired small dental care equipment for several years. The K.Nick company owner had a son called Pertti who started his summer job with the company after many years. Pertti’s task was to drive his moped over to the customers and deliver the equipment to the repair shop. At that time, the customers had the habit of writing a note when ordering equipment for their practice, which Pertti brought to the repair shop. At a later stage, this note-based order system gave Pertti the idea of a more comprehensive equipment trade for dentists and dental technicians.
Having finished school, Pertti continued in his father's business.

The first nation-wide equipment maintenance and installation visits were made in 1961, once the company had acquired a service van.
K.Nick was the first company in Finland to install air turbine units on customers dental care machines. The K.Nick precision mechanic repair shop manufactured the mechanism and compressor for the air turbine units.

In 1974, the K.Nick company underwent a change of generation when Pertti Nick bought the business from his father.

Dental Service Nick Oy was adopted as the new name. In 1976, the company started the import of machines, equipment and accessories on a more comprehensive scale. The import of small equipment, turbine units and square elbows made by the Japanese NSK Dental company also started at the same time. Initially, the Japanese manufacturer had long delivery times, and dentists could be compelled to wait for their units for as long as 12 months. Currently, NSK products are immediately available, and their quality rating is the world's best.
Another Japanese product manufacturer, Tokuyama Dental, was also found by chance. Pertti’s brother Keijo occasionally surfed the Internet during his coffee break searching for publications in the dental care field. One day Tokuyama Dental appeared on his computer screen, and the story of Estelite composite plastics and other Tokuyama Dental products began in Finland. In addition, Dental Service Nick embarked upon the import of accessories, furniture and equipment made by several manufacturers, including the Italian OMS dental units.
In 2010, Dental Service decided to undergo a reorganisation which meant that the sales and distribution of Tokuyama Dental and NSK Dental products in Finland was transferred to Dental Systems Oy. Dental Service Nick still continues with its product imports to Finland and product sales to the Baltic Countries.
